Why would a refrigerator stop cooling

A refrigerator may stop cooling due to a power problem, an electrical issue, dirty condenser coils, malfunctioning door seals or a nonworking compressor. If an individual is unable to solve the refrigerator’s problem, a qualified repair technician should be contacted. On a top-freezer when the drain stops up water will back up turning to ice and eventually filling the air ducks with ice blocking airflow to the fresh food section causing it not to cool. You will also see a water leak inside the fresh food section. The compressor is the component on your refrigerator that allows your refrigerator to cool.

Most of the time the compressor is not the component that has failed.

There are other parts on your refrigerator that have to start the compressor. Sometimes refrigerators and freezers automatically deactivate for some minutes when they reach the indicated temperature, and return cooling once it gets higher. It could be broken, I would call an electrician, or ask a frien if they are.

In most modern refrigerators, only the freezer is actually cooled by refrigeration coils. The cold air is sent to the refrigerator by a fan, which is controlled by a separate thermostat. Almost all new refrigerators have an automatic.

How to test the thermostat on your refrigerator. This video will show you how and why you should check the thermostat or cold control on your fridge. If you refrigerator is not working at all, no.

If your freezer is is still functioning properly while your refrigerator won’t cool , this a sign that it may be a problem with the evaporator fan motor. The fan should be checked for any obstructions. Self-defrosting refrigerators all have a set of coils and a cooling fan, usually under the refrigerator , that need to be cleaned regularly.

Your freezer could stop cooling for a few different reasons. You may have to replace parts yourself or get a professional to help. It may also be just a simple fix. Check to see if the condenser coils are dirty.

It will also affect ice production from the ice maker and slow or stop water flow from the dispenser. Pull out the refrigerator if needed and press the plug firmly into the outlet. If the condenser coils are dirty.

Any exposed wire, kinks or cuts in the cord might make the appliance malfunction. Lights on but freezer and cooler have stopped cooling. Refrigerator suddenly stopped cooling. Also there is a continued humming and the compressor is hot.

Bacteria, viruses, mold and germs in general prefer warm and humid environments, so storing food in a cool environment discourages spoilage. When a refrigerator is no longer able to cool, though, food is left susceptible to spoilage, placing you and your family’s health at risk. Since freon has the purpose of cooling most ice collects the thickest on the inside of the walls with the freon lines right behind the plastics. A better method of removing the ice is to empty your refrigerator , turn it off and leave the door open.

If your refrigerator is not cooling here are the parts that you should check!

Defrost Timer: The defrost control is used to send power to the defrost heaters at the proper time. My refrigerator has stop cooling ? Hi I am having a problem with a amana refrigerator. I heard something popped and then the smell of something burnt. When the freezer section is not cooling enough, ensure the freezer door is not always opened too frequently.

Adjust temperature settings. DEGREES is the recommended temperature for the refrigerator and DEGREES for the freezer. Inside either the freezer or refrigerator compartment you will generally find at least two dial type controls.

One of them, called the cold control, is an electric switch that starts and stops the compressor based on the temperature that it senses inside the compartment. Another issue could be with the condenser fan. A thermistor is a sensor that control the air temperature inside refrigerator and controls the start and stop of cooling cycle.

If it goes faulty, then the refrigerator does not cool at all or cools continuously. Why is my refrigerator not cooling ? I have a Whirlpool Gold side by side refrigerator Model GD5RHA which stopped cooling the other day. It had a weird sound going on before the cooling went out.

The evaporator fan is the part of the fridge that blows the cool air you feel when you open the door. It pulls air across the evaporator coil, cooling it, and then pushes the air through the freezer and refrigerator. There may be just enough air circulation to cool the freezer section but that will eventually stop too. The defrost system on a frost free refrigerator consists of some kind of timing device (often a mechanical timer), defrost heater(s) and a defrost termination thermostat ( a.k. a. defrost limit switch). Eventually the freezer will also stop freezing.

The motor will continue to run but there will be a heavy frost build-up. Again the refrigerator section will stop cooling and eventually the freezer will stop freezing. At the back top left inside the refrigerator compartment on my side by side, there is a plastic cover over a device which (I was told) controls the transfer of the cooling from the freezer side into the refrigerator side. The cooling system in a refrigerator has to power up and run longer to maintain the selected temperature in each compartment.

Try to remove all items from the refrigerator at once, as a meal for everyone, to minimize the number of door openings that allow in warm air.
