Pure ammonia for fishless cycling

Pure ammonia will only list ammonia and water as ingredients. As the opposite to cycle an aquarium with fish, fishless cycling is more humane. No fish will die in the process. While there is more than one way to fishless cycling an aquarium, one of the fastest ways is to use pure ammonia. I have a certain bias towards using fish food or combining fish food with pure ammonia.


The conventional method of using a hardy fish to cycle a new tank has some disadvantages.

First, subjecting a fish, however hardy, to ammonia and nitrite stress may be unnecessarily cruel. To do a fishless cycle, start by getting pure , household ammonia and using an online ammonia cycling calculator to determine how much you should add to your tank. Then, add the right amount of ammonia to the tank water. Fishless cycling is a form of maturing an aquarium. Im thinking about doing a 55gallon aquarium so for the cycling process I just introduce pure ammonia.


We recommended pure ammonia products for fishless cycling. However, it can be done with hardy fish too (example: Zebra Danio) but not recommended really. Without heavy bacteria seeding from TSS, it is impossible to cycle your tank in a week or even a month with or without fish.
