Freezer door hard to open

Rubber seals on edges of the door help to form a suction with the base of the fridge to keep the freezer door tightly closed. The temperature differential between the inside and outside of the freezer also contributes greatly in keeping a freezer seal tight. One downside is this sometimes makes the freezer difficult to open.


When the freezer door is opened , warm air rushes in-side. When you close the door , all the warm air rushes to the evaporator which causes a vacuum.

Unplug the unit and leave the freezer door open. Let the freezer defrost overnight or for at least eight hours. Use the towels to wipe up the melted ice. Plug in a hair dryer and direct it to the interior of the freezer to melt any remaining ice from the walls and door.

Hi guys, I have quite large fridge (not freezer ) and frankly often I cannot even open the door , I pull the whole fridge to me, I am not small build and it is just too hard. If the door does not open after a minute of closing it, open the door when possible and inspect the door gasket. Inspect the back wall of the refrigerator for condensation, frost or ice build up and refer to Frost on Back Wall if needed. Check for an ice buildup in freezer.

The techs at the dealership readjusted the frame and added some more screws to hold it in place and it works great now. Ours is not that hard to open. Moving van driver said door glides need to be cleaned.


Improper fixes to hard - to - open doors can cause ice and frost build-up, water dripping on. Freezer opened and closed smoothly prior to move. Open the freezer door carefully to avoid changing the alignment between it and the refrigerator door. Tighten the four screws to lock the position of the door. Try it yourself open your freezer for seconds, close it, then try and open it right after.


You will feel resistance compared to waiting a minute for the inside of the fridge to equalize. You can do the same experiment with a 4L milk jug pour super hot water in the jug. For several years all has worked OK but now the fridge door has become so stiff to open that the plastic sliders break away from the door.
