Freezer stinks

Fill a pie plate or shallow bowl with baking soda, activated charcoal or cat litter if the decaying smell remains. Set the pie plate in the freezer and turn it on. Run the freezer empty except for the pie plate for two to four days to absorb the rest of the odor. Moisture becomes trapped in crevices and along edges and corners of the ice maker and ice storage bin, causing the ice to have a funny taste and making your freezer smell.

Cleaning the ice maker and ice bin frequently with an anti-bacterial cleanser will remove existing bacteria and help prevent more from growing.

If food has been allowed to spoil in a refrigerator or freezer , the strong odors associated with food spoilage may be extremely difficult to remove. Use a bleach solution (one tablespoon chlorine bleach per gallon of water) to rinse inside surfaces. Place the pot on the stove and heat until a boil begins to appear.

Of course, the problem of smelly freezer ice could be directly related to your water line.

Homeowners using well water may discover their ice smells like rotten eggs. This problem is typically due to the presence of sulfur gas running through the well. When the bad smells in the freezer are because of accumulated dirt, even if you try to mask these smells , you will not get rid of them! Follow these steps: empty the freezer , turn the appliance off, unplug the unit and wait for it to defrost. Under an upright there is actually a drain pan that can slide out for cleaning.

Deep freeze freezers usually have a plug at the drain hole. I would check this drain for the smell source first and clean if necessary. Or do you think the smell is coming from the fridge itself.

Put an open cup or bowl in the fridge, or mix it in with water as an effective cleaning solution. Use oats as an odor-absorber. Leave a bowl of oats out in your fridge and this will suck in the bad smells.

Place dry, fresh coffee grounds in a few shallow bowls or spread across baking sheets. We Have a Targeted Eco-Friendly Solution for Every Smell ! Occasionally clean out the freezer to keep it smelling fresh. When the refrigerator and freezer are connecte the smell spoiled food in the refrigerator generates can travel to the freezer , causing the freezer to smell.

Keep track of when you place food in the refrigerator, and place them in properly sealed containers to help prevent spoiling.

Step 5: Clean the Evaporator. If there’s a lasting funk that just won’t go away, chances are the refrigerator smells have permeated the evaporator coil, which produces cold air for the fridge and freezer. The coil, along with the fan that distributes the air, are typically located on the back wall of the freezer. We have an upright freezer from which an awful smell is permeating….

It actually smells like poop for lack of a better word and when I get right down to the back of the freezer where the motor is and this copper cylinder with a wire coming out of it, the smell is stronger. There are no holes, seams or anywhere where anything could have leaked. This odor is so powerful that I cannot freeze anything for more than a week before the flavor is completely ruined. If the stinky items are still in place, turn the freezer back on and allow them to refreeze. This will lessen some of the smell when it comes time to remove the rotten items.

The smell of fish, I do not know how it got there is coming out of the freezer. Is there any suggestion on how to spray or put. When I open my freezer it stinks. Click on image to enlarge. Simply place in fridge or freezer to get smell out.

The ice may not only absorb the odor but develop an unpleasant taste as well. Finding the origin of the smell and eradicating it usually solves the smell issue. Objectionable odors in the freezer may be caused by food that has been left in the freezer too long, food that has been packaged improperly, or by food that has spoiled when the electricity was off. Refrigerator coolants may smell like ammonia, nail polish remover or another chemical.

It is necessary to open windows and doors in the home if the cause of the odor is a suspected coolant leak. Open windows and doors in the room for at least minutes to ensure adequate ventilation, then check the temperature inside the refrigerator. The problem may then be the house that has the fridge installed. If there is so much weed that the fridge smells , then the house smells too and that ain’t easy to clean.

My guess is that someone could probably smell the house from the street and next door too. See all for freezer smell. You just open the fridge and freezer doors and spray a shot of Ozium into each, and then close the doors. Other than that, my only suggestion is to take everything out of the fridge, put on some rubber gloves and clean the entire interior of the fridge with bleach straight out of the jug. We threw away a lot of food that had been affected by the smell, but things like hot dogs in thick sealed packages we kept, but put them in the extra freezer outside.

I did order the filters for the unit, just in case. The freezer seems odor free. Lots of dripage in both freezers and they both stink. Fortunately I used FoodSaver bags, so the frozen foods did not leak.

What is the best thing(s) to clean both the freezers and the refrigerators sections.
